Ron Barnacle Building Opened

Taskforce opens newly extended “Ron Barnacle Building”

Yesterday (27 July), Melbourne based community group Taskforce celebrated the opening of its newly renovated Moorabbin premises.

The renovation and extension was funded by a combination of federal and state government grants, donations from Friends of Taskforce, Mile and Melbourne Newsboys, and the in-kind contributions of property developer Paul Yates.

The opening ceremony was also an occasion to celebrate the 20 year contribution of Ron Barnacle, President of the Taskforce board. Ron has been instrumental in Taskforce’s evolution into an organisation that touches the lives of over 3 000 people each year – helping them to break the cycle of drug and alcohol use, manage mental health problems and to get themselves back on track.

In recognition of Ron’s contribution, Taskforce has named the renovated building in his honour. The Ron Barnacle Building now has additional counselling spaces, new therapeutic spaces, family counselling rooms, a visiting practitioner’s suite, youth drop in lounge and fantastic training space.

Senator Ursula Stephens officially opened the new “Ron Barnacle Building”.

TaskForce Wins Award

Just announced today, TaskForce and our partners have won the 2009 Not For Profit Network Partnership of the Year Award for SUSO (Stepping uP stepping out)

The Not-For-Profit Network Awards program recognises people, projects, partnerships and organisations who exemplify best practice in the nonprofit sectors in Australia and New Zealand. Awards have a strong focus on individuals, organisations, partnerships and projects whose actions enable the organisation to be more sustainable, are focused on achieving the organisation's vision, and contribute to the organization’s increased success.

SUSO is the collaboration between TaskForce, Odyssey house, Interact and Youth Projects, each with a different specialist approach who came together in 2008 and self funded a niche and innovative pilot project in partnership with the Judy Lazarus Transition Centre, the first prison of its type in Victoria supporting men to transition back into the community as part of the end months of their sentence. We are delighted to win this award!
