Senator Ursula Stephens, Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion visits TaskForce
“I left school when I was 15, my parents had broken up, and I was really sad. Soon that sadness became depression, and I couldn’t get out of bed. I went from being a happy kid, doing well at school to someone who could not get out of bed. It’s been almost 3 years and I am doing nothing. I can’t get back into school and I have no qualifications for a job… I don’t know what I am going to do”
20 young people engaged in services at TaskForce met Senator Stephens in April to discuss their circumstances and the impact of leaving school early. Young people who attended expressed a desire to return to school or to get a job but highlighted that in many cases for each of them it was a goal that felt quite unattainable.
