Originally named, TaskForce Young Volunteers, TaskForce had its beginnings in Greville St, Prahran and housed a variety of services including; pathology, a literacy program, NA groups, a generalist youth program and education programs. Workers were paid and the organisation was supported by a number of volunteer counsellors. It was a busy place, and although not set up as a drop in centre it was a place where people could sit with a cup of coffee out the back and chat. It was often a place of first contact where people would come looking for referrals to housing agencies and for help with education and employment.
In 1997, TaskForce was successful tendering to provide new drug and alcohol services in Moorabbin where a new building was bought and established. This created 2 separate offices and saw the growth of a number of new pre-employment education and training programs, called Working Edge in Prahran.
In the past decade Taskforce has begun to deliver many of its programs across the broader Southern Metropolitan region of Melbourne, covering a wide range of suburbs and municipalities in the area and has become award winning provider of a number of innovative pre-employment, education, training youth and specialist drug and alcohol services.
Today we operate from across 6 full-time sites in Melbourne, Prahran, Moorabbin, Frankston, Northcote, Cranbourne and Packenham with one goal: ‘Breaking the cycle of addiction and unemployment’.
